The purpose of this blog is to actively engage in local, national, and global issues for further enrichment of intellectual, spiritual, social and cultural selves in a rapidly changing world.
I really enjoyed reading this article about religion and globalization. I never realized how much religion moves with people. I also like that the different African Christian churches in the west are not only for African Americans but also for any minority that would like to be apart of it. Another interesting fact that caught my eye was that some of the churches have different services in different languages. I believe that this shows that religion brings people of many different denominations together. Different aspects of home cultures are represented in the churches as well. By maintainig dress, food, and music from their country, they are keeping their heritage while still practicing their Christian faith. To me, these African Christian churches are good for religion and globalizition. Kara Silvers
I thought this article was very interesting. I am a Christian and I was raised with a religious family also. It's interesting to hear about other cultures having changes about Christianity. I do believe people in Africa needed a big effect to help them. African's turning to Christianity for faith is great because it's such a big, growing religion. I'm glad more people are believing in the same God as me.
The one thing that I like about Christianity is that it doesn't matter what denomination you are, you can still fit in with other Christians (usually). This article notes the impact that globalization has on the Christian religion. Immigrants from Africa were able to come to the United states and still worship as they had been because Christianity is so universal and globalization makes that easier for them.
Globalization creates an opportunity for others to see the differences in culture in the United States. For instance going to the HOCC would help traditional Christians such as myself, see worship from a different perspective. Globalization has allowed African immigrants to keep their traditional dress, food, culture etc. in their churches and they are able to pass the traditions down to their future generations.
“I am a champion, God is not finished with me yet, no matter what I am going through in this foreign land, I am more than conqueror. In my visa application, in my job, in my education, among folk in Africa, I am a champion.” I think that this quote really makes the connection of globalization to Christianity. It is easy to see that this statement is religious and traditional to their culture, but you can also see how it kind of ties in with the american dream. They are able to be successful in America while still holding ties to their African tradition.
I liked this article about religion and globalization. I didnt relize how wide spread christianity is. Its good to know the that the church has its arms open to all typs of dinominations. Another thing i thought was interesting was that Ethnic Identity Formation at Hands On Christian Church (HOCC)
Apart from cell group meetings in various houses, other aspects reinforcing identity formation at Hands On Christian church include cultural continuity through, dress, food, language and music. Each of these aspects plays a significant part in cultural continuity, adaptation, and transition to a newly adopted homeland. i learned alot from this article and enjoyed it greatly.
